The present work was painted in Martinsville, Maine. It depicts John McCoy, the husband of Andrew Wyeth's elder sister Ann. McCoy was himself an accomplished artist, and it was while studying in the studio of N.C. Wyeth that he first met Andrew and Ann.
The Andrew & Betsy Wyeth Study Center of the Brandywine Museum of Art confirms that this object is recorded in Betsy James Wyeth's files (nw0052-39).
