Cooling Off on the Kamo River
Kakejiku (hanging scroll), ink and colours on silk in silk and antique printed cotton mounts by Kami Kentarō (1991): Kawara yūsuzumi (Cooling off in the evening on the banks of the [Kamo] river); a summer evening during the rainy season with more than 30 individuals—depicted in typical Shijō figurative style—seated on kawayuka, temporary platforms set up along the eastern side of Kyoto's fabled Ponto-chō entertainment street, dining out while enjoying the cooling effect of the flowing water; to the north, pedestrians passing back and forth over Sanjō Bridge; dated and signed Mizunoe-inu minazuki jōkan Ko Motohiko utsusu (Brushed by Ko Motohiko early in the sixth month of 1862) and sealed Motohiko and Hanga hyakuyō; with a modern wood storage box and a cardboard slipcase
