Footnotes

Raw-War is the first print Bruce Nauman and Jean Milant created together. The image relates to Nauman's greater practice utilizing industrial materials like fiberglass and neon. The conceptual artist found printmaking to be the perfect medium to further explore one of his constant themes: the interplay between front and back. Nauman exploits the natural reversal of forms inherent to the process of printmaking by playing with anadromes, words whose letters can be reverse to spell another word.
