A FINE GOLD-LACQUER FOUR-CASE SHEATH INRŌ

Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th century
Of lenticular plan with applied himotoshi, the outer sleeve decorated in two shades of gold, and silver takamaki-e and hiramaki-e with highlights of ōkii-birame on a kinji ground with shishi (mythical Chinese lions) and cubs standing on rocky cliffs by a waterfall and large peonies, the inner sleeve housing four oval covered stacking boxes decorated with floral designs in gold hiramaki-e on a kinji ground, the interiors nashiji, fitted with a brass and silver cylindrical ojime decorated with flowers
