Edo period (1615-1868) or Meiji era (1868-1912), 19th century
Comprising a seated Nio guardian tugging on a straw sandal held with his toes; an oni polishing a mirror; a badger striking his distended belly; a man struggling to free his loin cloth from a large clam; a painted wood netsuke of a standing man with a large mokugyo (wooden bell); a bathing man crouching before a wood bucket, scrubbing his back, signed Mitsunaga; Kakkyo and his wife rejoicing as they find a pot of gold; Moso, one of the 24 Paragons of Filial Piety, with a bamboo shoot on his back, inscribed Minkō and with a kaō; a dark wood group of rats on an overturned hat; and a metal miniature chest with movable drawers
