TEN WOOD NETSUKE

Edo period (1615-1868) or Meiji era (1868-1912), 19th century
Comprising a dark wood boar entwined by a serpent, the boar's tusks inlaid in bone; Bukan resting against his tiger with two sleeping Chinese boys; a red-and-gold lacquered shishi (mythical Chinese lion) and cub; a Chinese boy kneeling on a drum, his head stuck through the suspension ring; a figure balancing a pot on his head while he attempts to write with a brush at a writing desk, signed Masakazu; a warrior slicing the robes of his enemy; Ja in serpent form entwined around the bell of Dojoji; a standing Chinese figure holding a fly whisk; a seated boy wearing a Shishi mask; a badger with a protruding belly in the robes of a monk
2 1/2in (6.3cm) high, the largest (10).
