8vo (167 x 129 mm). Long manuscript transcription by Bøgh of Andersen's dedicatory poem which he had written in Carl Bloch's copy to the verso of dedication page. Contemporary calf, decoratively bordered in blind, light wear.
Provenance: H.C. Andersen (presentation inscription to): Frederik Bøgh (1836-1882, author and critic); Eliza Plum Bøgh (1836-1910, inscription dated 1866); Niels Munk Plum (bookplate).

PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED FOR THE POET FREDERIK BØGH. Bøgh was a poet, a friend of painter Carl Bloch and importantly the brother of Nicolai Bøgh, who Andersen had appointed along with Carl Steen Bille as the gatekeeper of his literary legacy a month before he died. In 1861, Bøgh had published Valkyrien. Et nordisk digt i tyve sange, a copy of which he presented to Andersen with a warm tribute, beginning (in translation), "To the poet Hans Christian Andersen/ You, who gave me so much joy/ Ever since I was a little boy...." Nielsen 910, 911-914.
