Helene Balling was married to Jonathan Balling, a Danish warehouse administrator and early benefactor of Andersen. When Andersen first moved to Copenhagen in 1827, he established a regular dinner rotation, through which he was a regular dinner guest in various families' homes. In his early years in Copenhagen, these families acted as a benefactor to a poor student; he continued the practice throughout most of his life, and by the time he had gained more acclaim as an author, he became an engaging guest of honor. In the early years of his dinner rotation, he would dine with Jonathan Balling every Saturday evening. Andersen corresponded regularly with both Helene and Jonathan Balling throughout the course of his life. A VERY FINE ASSOCIATION COPY.

Second edition of the first pamphlet of Series 2, FIRST EDITIONS OF THE REST.
