12mo. Pictorial tinted frontispiece and title, 17 full-page wood engraved plates, and numerous in-text wood-engraved illustrations all after Vilhelm Pedersen Red morocco, gilt, upper cover with illustration, by Anker Kyster.

FIRST COLLECTED EDITION IN DANISH, AND THE FIRST DANISH APPEARANCE OF PEDERSEN'S ILLUSTRATIONS IN BOOK FORM. Commissioned jointly by Reitzel and the Leipzig publisher Carl Lorck, Pedersen's illustrations are among the earliest and most recognizable, and Pedersen the first of the "official" Andersen illustrators. This edition collects 45 fairy tales including his most famous. It was issued in Leipzig in 1849, and serially in 5 installments by Reitzel in the same year, before collecting them in book form as here. Nielsen 551.
