UNPUBLISHED ILLUSTRATION FOR "THE SNOW QUEEN."

JAQUES, FAITH. 1923-1997. "The Snow Queen" Original illustration art, mixed media on board, 240 x 375 mm, unsigned, matted and framed, with a typed quotation in English from Andersen's "The Snow Queen" on the backing board: "He looked up into the great vast vault of the sky, and she flew with him, high up on the dark clouds...."

Faith Jaques was "one of the outstanding illustrators responsible for the renaissance of British picture books during the last three decades" (Obituary in The Independent, 1997). She illustrated Roald Dahl's children's books in London, including the 1967 first UK edition of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, after a controversy over negative racial stereotypes in the American illustrations. Although Jaques illustrated a number of children's books, this illustration appears to have been unpublished.
