FIRST APPEARANCE OF "THE SNOW QUEEN," WITH ORIGINAL WRAPPERS.

ANDERSEN, HANS CHRISTIAN. 1805-1875. Nye Eventyr - Anden Samling. Copenhagen: C. A. Reitzel, 1845 [1844].
8vo. Parchment backed boards, with original wrappers bound in.
Provenance: Chr. Schmidt (contemporary ownership inscription, dated 18/3/47); Dr. Richard Klein (bookplate, laid-in); sold, his sale, Sotheby's, New York, March 6, 1980, lot 13.

FIRST EDITION OF THE SECOND PAMPHLET INCLUDING THE FIRST APPEARANCE OF "THE SNOW QUEEN" AND "THE FIR TREE" - WITH RARE ORIGINAL WRAPPERS STILL PRESENT AND BOUND-IN. The rare first appearance of Andersen's "The Snow Queen," one of Andersen's longest tales, told in seven chapters, as well as one of the most intricate and most highly acclaimed. Disney's Frozen was originally intended to be a straight adaptation of The Snow Queen, which Disney had been interested in making since before 1940. As the writers wrestled the material, including the title character as villain, the storyline was adapted over two years into the 2013 film. Copies of the first edition of the part in the original wrappers are exceedingly scarce. Nielsen 454, 455-456.
