4to (250 x 205 mm). Volume title page dated 1827, contents, issues 1-105. Contemporary paper boards, manuscript title label to spine, spine chipped.

RARE JOURNAL FROM 1827 CONTAINING ANDERSEN'S FIRST "FAIRY TALE" ("EVENTYR"), "Dykker-Klokken. Et Eventyr paa Havets Bund" ("The Diving Bell. A Fairy-tale from the Bottom of the Ocean"), as well as 7 other first appearances. Andersen first uses the word "Eventyr" in the December 7 issue of Johan Ludvig Heiberg's literary magazine Kjøbenhavns flyvende Post (Nielsen 16), issue 98, to describe his story (written in verse) of a descent to the bottom of the ocean where the narrator sees whole new perspectives. It would reappear as chapter XII of his first book, Fodreise in 1829. Nielsen 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16.
