[ANDERSEN, HANS CHRISTIAN. 1805-1875.] Original woodblock plate for Vilhelm Rosenstand's woodcut illustration for Andersen's Samlede Skrifter published in Copenhagen by C.A. Reitzel in 1876. Original woodblock, cut and inked, 154 x 100 x 24 mm.
Vilhelm Jacob Rosenstand, Danish painter and illustrator, was known for his historicist approach to painting. The woodblock was used the produce the engraved title page for the work and depicts Hans Christian Andersen in profile within a wreath of laurel, the entire title page then set within a foliate border with harps.
