Footnotes

"Jaffa (Cattistock Duke of Orange), our muse, an orange and white English
Pointer, spent his first weeks in a cardboard box, which formed his bed. This,
along with the ever-increasing flow of cardboard packaging from online
purchases, led to the inspiration for our design.

The open form of this rotunda allows for gentle filtering of natural light and
creates a bright and airy interior space. The circular shape promotes natural
airflow through the columns and echoes the natural shape of a dog curling up
to rest, creating a cosy and calming environment.

Based on the 'dogigami' principle, our kennel is created entirely out of
cardboard and other bio-based materials; creating beauty from these
humble, ubiquitous resources.

Flat cardboard is folded, bent and shaped by cutting, moulding and adhering,
with several boards laminated together to form sheets of great strength. This
cardboard is re-purposed from packaging, and creates the roof structure and
shingles. Rigid cardboard tubes provide impressive strength for the major
structural elements.

All materials used in the construction are sourced from nature, and can either
be recycled or returned to nature through composting.

Rigid cardboard tubes provide the kennel with impressive structural strength and are used for the major structural elements. These tubes are created using a tube winding process which is chemically waste free and any wastage can be re-pulped to make further tube products. Flat cardboard is folded, bent, shaped by cutting, moulded, glued and several boards laminated together to form sheets of great strength. This flat cardboard is re-purposed from packaging received from deliveries of on-line purchases. This board is used to create the roof shingles, bed base and walls. Cardboard is both recyclable and biodegradable, making it an environmentally friendly building material. Shredded cardboard can be used in composting. The kennel construction will use non-toxic, water-based adhesives.

Similarly, the surface of cardboard can be treated with non-toxic water and flame-resistant sprays and water-based paint if a more finished look is preferred".
