Summer is a recent Fine Art graduate from Oxford Brookes University. Summer's practice is a ritual, consisting of sculpture, found things, prints and painting. She is inspired by the memories and half-recalled places of the locations from which she collects source materials. Summer's work explores a deep-rooted affinity with nature and landscape; the soil beneath her feet and where the sky meets the land and sea. For instance, the reminiscence of rural and coastal Norfolk landscapes, aiming to capture the energy and feeling of the place in an intuitive way, and often using the materials collected from specific sites.
The materials she works with relate directly back to the ideas explored in her work. She incorporates natural pigments, foraged on walks, which she then processes into paints that inspire some of her abstract prints and paintings. Summer captures energy through the rhythms and currents of colour and layering, using her body to allow expansive gestures and marks.
