Footnotes

Matthew Thomas (b. 1972, Essex) lives in London and has been a specialist in the Islamic and Indian Art Department at Bonhams since 2004. The three views here were part of a brief foray into photography in 2014, shot on film and in black and white with a Nikon, during wanderings mostly in Clerkenwell and the City of London. Since he has never been able to draw or paint, he found photography an apt medium not only for capturing compositions and juxtapositions in the city, but also (seen in the Mount Pleasant view) for recording scenes that were rapidly changing and disappearing.
