Margo Wolowiec (b. 1985, Detroit, MI) makes loom-woven textiles infused with images via dye-sublimation transfer. Her painterly assemblages feature imagery focused on the environment: prismatic moth and butterfly wings, sweeping landscapes, unusual icebergs, and solar eclipse shadows. Her works are symbols of hope and a testament to the intimate warp and weft of the natural world.

In Wolowiec's "storm system series," the artist creates intricate works that explore the intersection of climate change, technology, and social systems. By amalgamating images, forecast graphics, and texts from online sources, she highlights the realities of climate change, its causes, and broader implications for our society. Her process involves digitally altering and collaging images, which are then printed on heat-sensitive paper, transferred to polymer threads, and meticulously woven into stretched linen. The resulting artworks oscillate between legibility and abstraction, with images of water droplets and skies distorted like a glitchy satellite transmission. These pieces reveal the vulnerabilities of social networks and media while showcasing a unique blend of ancient weaving techniques and modern digital technologies, creating surfaces that are both visually complex and physically tactile.
