Footnotes

十八/十九世紀 黃花梨端石插屏

Decorative stone panels have long been cherished by the literati for their intricate patterns, evocative abstract imagery and their resemblance to natural landscapes. These panels were often incorporated into tables, display stands, or screens. Table screens, seen as the present lot, were placed on a scholar's desk to inspire contemplation and intellectual reflection. See a related white stone inset huali table screen, Qing dynasty, in the Qing Court Collection, the Palace Museum, Beijing (acc.no.故00209200).
