A Sèvres hard-paste porcelain tureen, circa 1783

Decorated with polychrome floral sprays and blue feathering to scrolling handles accentuated in gilt, the gilt-edged rim, 19.3cm diam., crowned interlaced LL monogram with date letter "ff" for 1783, crown painter's mark "b9" for Boucot fils cadet and gilder's mark "BD" for Baudouin père (small chip to foot rim)

Footnotes

This tureen forms part of a service delivered on May 8, 1783 to King Louis XVI for the royal pantries at several of his residences including Versailles and Fontainebleau, likely as a supplement to earlier services from the 1770s, with a decoration listed in the sales registers as "roses et feuillage." Each tureen and stand cost 18 livres. See D. Peters, Sèvres Plates and Services of the 18th Century, vol. III, 2005 (republished 2015), pp. 683-687.
