Footnotes

Sharaff worked on both the stage and screen costumes for The King and I, eventually earning her an Academy Award for Best Costume Design, Colour for the 1956 film.

Following the film premiere Bosley Crowther, writing for The New York Times, noted that '...it is the pictorial magnificence...that especially distinguishes the film. Done with a taste in decoration and costuming that is forceful and rare, the whole thing has a harmony of the visuals that is splendid in excellent colour and CinemaScope.'
