These would appear to be the arms of the WIRLEY or WYRLEY family until the 18th century of Hampstead Hall and estate, Staffordshire. An estate with attached manors in the parish of Handsworth, Staffordshire, that today is closely associated with Birmingham. The family were earlier believed to be descendants of a family of Northamptonshire. The grant of arms to the family is registered at the Ulster Office. The property passed to the BIRCH family by marriage, who adopted the family name WRYLEY-BIRCH and the arms of WRYLEY.
This item may have been the property of John WRYLEY-BIRCH (17007-1785) Esq., High Sherrif of Staffordshire, who at Westminster in 1737 married Jane LANE (1715-1788). He was the son of the Revd. Dr Peter BIRCH (16520-1710) by his wife Sibyl WYRLEY (died 1708).
