An Italian early 17th century cypress wood cassone

Alto Adige
The top and front with shallow carving depicting assorted figures and foliate designs, the top possibly removed from another cassone of a very similar age, 164cm wide x 56cm deep x 61cm high, (64 1/2in wide x 22in deep x 24in high)

Provenance
Until now the offered lot formed part of a collection of furniture and works of art, ranging from the 15th century to the 18th century, which furnished an early 15th century Sussex manor house. This collection was amassed predominantly over the course of the last quarter of the previous century and includes some very rare pieces.

Saleroom notices

Please note this lot features a label to its rear that reads: Monsieur H.A. Peto/ Iford Manor/ Bradford-on-Avon. There are the remnants of Angleterre to the lower left. Harold Ainsworth Peto (1854 - 1933) is best known as the architect of the Iford Manor gardens in Bradford-on-Avon.
