This sculpture bears witness to Ndary Lo's obsession with the figure in motion, revealing that recognisable gesture which the Senegalese artist developed: that protruding torso which propels his figures forward. This singular posture stems from direct observation.
Those who knew Ndary Lo describe his particularly distinctive gait: he always walked very quickly, chest thrust forward, torso immobile and pelvis in motion, as though he needed to conquer the space opening before him. The artist transposed this personal gesture, imbued with his cultural heritage, into his sculptures, transforming corporeal observation into a sculptural language.
Please note: The title, date and medium of this work is Marcheur, no 271, 2014, iron rebar.
