The mother of pearl marriage fan and the tortoiseshell fan, probably Italian, late 18th century, the last fan probably Italian or Spanish, possibly late 18th/early 19th century with later leaf
The first painted to the vellum leaf with a rustic scene of a putto and couple flanked by a seated lady holding an oval portrait of her fiancé to one side and a corresponding figure of a gentleman with a portrait of his fiancée to the other, the sticks with silvered pierced trellis, trophy, putto and portrait decoration, the obverse guardstick with a military figure and portrait, mounted in a later glazed gilt case, the second painted to the vellum leaf with a biblical figural scene of the Pharoah's daughter and attendant figures with Moses, the sticks with foliate piqué work, the guardsticks with silvered foliate decoration, the last with printed and painted figural scene, the sticks well carved and pierced with figures of a fisherman and woman, and birds and flowers with gilt and enamel foliate D-shaped handle, the first, 24cm high, 28cm wide approximate, the case, 38cm high, 57cm wide, the second, 30cm high, 53cm wide, the last,26cm high, 49cm wide, (3)
