Provenance
Hampel Auctions, Wednesday 26th September, 2018, Lot 102.

These candelabra are modelled after a number of known original 18th-century models.

For an example featuring Sèvres 'bleu nouveau' porcelain, see P. Kjellberg, Objets Montés, Paris, 2000, p. 168. A similar porcelain example is held in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (Jones Collection, 982A-1882, see H. Ottomeyer, P. Pröschel et al., Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, p. 259) and another example th a white marble body is in the Münchner Residenz.

Undoubtedly a popular design, the snake or serpent handled vase was widely copied in the 19th century by numerous French makers, most notably by Henry Dasson and Alfred Beurdeley. A contemporary drawing of an Alfred Beurdeley design for a serpent handled vase in pencil and watercolour is in the permanent collection of the Musée des Arts Décoratif, No. 395

The design of the offered vases and the quality of their bronze mounts with the addition of additional palm leaf collars and star ornaments perhaps also suggests such an attribution.
