Two impressive early Victorian silver-mounted claret jugs

The near pair, each with hinged covers formed of leaves and fruiting grapevine with a grape finial, the intertwined scroll handle naturalistically modelled as vines terminating into naturalistic leaves and vines to the glass body, the mounts with a rocaille ground flourishing into the spout, the whole covered with naturalistic leaves and fruiting grapevine, naturalistically terminating into the baluster glass body, raised on a circular collet foot, height each 26.5cm.

The first silver-mounted glass claret jugs appeared in London during the 1830s, with hallmarks for London 1838 these are rare early examples.
