Two rare Chinoiserie 'lac-burgauté' style folding fans
French, both possibly attributable to Alphonse Giroux, circa 1830-40
The first with paper leaf decorated to the obverse with a scene of figures within a pergola flanked by further figures within a floral and foliate garden landscape with applied feather birds and insects, the figures with painted mother of pearl faces, the reverse with a further figure by a flowering jardiniere, flowering tree and rockwork, the sticks with pagoda landscape decoration with ivory and tortoiseshell fillet ends and mother of pearl rivet, the second fan with paper leaf decorated to the obverse with eight figures, one in a carriage, on playing a stringed instrument, within a floral and foliate garden landscape with applied feather birds and insects, the figures with painted mother or pearl faces, the reverse with three further figures and flowering trees, the sticks with pagoda landscape decoration with ivory and tortoiseshell fillet ends and mother of pearl rivet,
