A George III mahogany and chequer inlaid serpentine commode

1765-1780
With boxwood and ebonised stringing, the satinwood crossbanded top with projecting eared front angles and an ogee moulded edge, above a brushing slide, over four long graduated tablet-inlaid drawers with chequered featherbanding, flanked by engaged cluster column angles, the top drawer mahogany and oak lined, on shaped and eared bracket feet, the uppermost drawer originally having a sliding top and possibly also a fitted interior which are now missing, with a 19th century oval brass plaque impressed: 'S. & H. JEWELL, 29, 30 & 31 LITTLE QUEEN ST., HOLBORN, W.C.' 116cm wide x 56.5cm deep x 92cm high, (45 1/2in wide x 22in deep x 36in high)
