In the 17th century form, the cover surmounted by three figures, with a maiden with her arm resting on a pillar, flanked by two winged figures, one with a sword and clad in armour, the other kneeing with hands clenched, the cover with six bosses, the lid adorned with wire work laurel garlands, horse bits, manacles, medals and gems, the cup with varying bosses to the rim and embossed and chased design, with a detailed engraved renaissance scene, depicting to the centre a manacled man appearing to be held prisoner, in front of a judge / king, flanked by interested parties either side, each with three seated men, one side includes a mother with two children being protected by a knight in full armour with shield, the opposite side the prisoner is being defended by a gentlemen who appears to be offering a bladed knife, bordered by circular bosses and embossed and chased foliate design, with hemispherical protrusions with repeated gems, raised on a singular knopped stem with embossed and engraved design, encircling the stem are four kneeling manacled figures, two male and two female, with heads bowed, raised on spreading quatrefoil base, gilt interior, height 42cm, weight 72oz.
