An impressive Victorian silver covered trophy bowl

Robert Hennell III, London 1864
Of baluster from, the cover with three cast horses, naturalistically modelled circling on a naturalistic grass-effect base, bordered with embossed and chased shaped panels with motifs, the body with an out swept flared rim, the sides with applied cast naturalistic fruiting garlands of apples and gourdes in high relief, further shaped panels with motifs among a stippled ground, with protruding ornate shaped cartouches to either side, the front cartouche engraved:

the lower belly with foliate panels, the stem with acanthus and foliate knops and cast shaped shields, on a stepped spreading foot with chased and embossed banded foliate design, height 52.5cm, weight 230oz.

By descent through the Jervis family to the present owners, descendants of Admiral of the Fleet and 1st Earl of St Vincent (1734-1823).

At the time of the race Carnegie Robert Jervis, was 3rd Viscount St Vincent (1825 - 1879)

Lord St Vincent's Redan had a successful two-year old season winning the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster in 1865 and later competing in the Epsom Derby in 1866.
