A matching pair of boxed George I Britannia standard silver tea caddies

John Farnell, London 1717, date letter only distinct on one caddy,
Of chamfered upright rectangular form, with domed sliding covers, with stepped base, the front with engraved arms of the HAWKINS family, held in fitted shagreen box, with brass lock escutcheon, height 12cm, weight total 12.3 oz.

Footnotes

The arms here represent the HAWKINS family. Both are likely to be related to the Elizabethan Naval Commander Sir John HAWKINS (1532-1595). There are a number of branches and a variety of grants of arms associated with the HAWKINS family. The HAWKINS arms displayed here are distinctively different to the earliest grant of arms, that was associated with Sir John HAWKINS.
