A rare and unusual George II or George III 'Antiquarian' burr yew, padouk, stained bone, holly and fruitwood marquetry tall chest or commode

Made: 1750-1765 in order to house and display marquetry of an earlier date, the marquetry dating to circa 1685
With ebony line-inlay and shaped line-inlaid tablets of various shapes and sizes overall, each tablet inlaid with assorted flowers and foliage, the top with an ogee moulded edge, above four long oak lined drawers, over one deep oak lined drawer disguised as two long drawers, on large shaped bracket feet, the drawer interiors lined with 18th century paper, 113cm wide x 55cm deep x 111.5cm high, (44in wide x 21 1/2in deep x 43 1/2in high)

The present lot was purchased by the grandfather of the current owner and vendor from Jessica Longhurst of Magill Antiques (BADA member of the time), Long Melford, Suffolk, in October 1971.
