Provenance
Sotheby's, London, Old Master Sculpture & Works of Art, 4th December 2018, Lot 66.
Fanelli's equestrian models were well received in 17th century England. King Charles I was reported to have five statues by Fanelli in his collection. The present lot shows two models, the Leaping Horse and the Stallion Grazing. Fanelli produced variations of both models throughout his career and one of his patrons, Duke of Newcastle, bought casts of all these equestrian models for Welbeck Abbey.
