Footnotes

An early Victorian writing table, which is dated circa 1845, of typical Louis XV style and with a similar gallery, as well as incorporating comparable porcelain mounts, to the offered lot is illustrated in C. Payne, European Furniture of the 19th Century, 2013, Woodbridge, p. 288. This closely comparable table was evidently originally retailed by Edward Holmes Baldock due to the presence of Baldock's distinctive 'EHB' marque au fer to its underside.

Two further related porcelain mounted examples include a bureau plat of circa 1835 retailed by Baldock, and likewise branded with his initials, as on the aforementioned table. This appears in C. Gilbert, Pictorial Dictionary of Marked London Furniture, 1700-1840, 1996, Leeds, fig. 44, p. 77. And another smaller model of Louis XV style table, which is labelled for Town and Emanuel and dated 1835, features in the same book, Ibid, fig.'s 903 & 904, p. 450.
