After Antoine Coysevox, (French, 1640-1720): A pair of mid-19th century patinated bronze equestrian figures of Mercury and Pegasus and Aurora and Pegasus

Both raised on naturalistic bases with military trophies, and mounted on rectangular sienna marble plinths, the moulded plateaus with foliate gilt bronze borders, raised on swept moulded bases, Aurora missing her trumpet the figures 25cm high and 26cm high, the plinths 9.5cm high, 28cm wide, 15.5cm deep (2)

The original monumental groups by Antoine Coysevox, 'Mercury Rising on Pegasus' and 'Fame Riding Pegasus', were completed around 1702 and have stood at the entrance of the Tuileries Gardens in Paris since 1719. They were so admired that Louis XIV granted the sculptor, then Director of the Academy of Painting and Sculpture, the highest pension ever awarded to an artist during his reign
