A good late 18th century mahogany verge escapement striking bracket clock

John Skinner, Exeter
The case surmounted by a brass carrying handle over a belted top, with four finials to each corner, the moulded top above the front door with inset brass sound frets and simple lock escutcheon. The sides fitted with fish-scale pierced sound frets backed in old silk, all terminating on a moulded base and raised on four brass ogee feet. The 7-inch silvered brass dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, signed to the centre John Skinner, Exeter, incorporating a separate calendar subsidiary. In the break-arch a strike/silent dial, all with blued steel hands. The double fusee movement with verge escapement, striking the hours on a polished bell mounted above. The backplate finely engraved with neoclassical motifs. Currently ticking and striking. 53cms (21ins) high.
