This bronze plaque, though only partially preserved, still bears clearly discernible, exquisitely engraved kuilong patterns. The kuilong, a mythical one-legged divine beast from ancient Chinese lore, featured prominently in bronze decoration from the Shang and Zhou dynasties through the Warring States period, symbolizing authority, mystery, and auspiciousness.
By the Warring States period, the style of bronze decoration evolved from the solemn grandeur of the Shang and Zhou dynasties toward increasingly intricate, fluid, and dynamic designs. Kuilong motifs were often combined with cloud-and-thunder patterns, coiled dragon motifs, and other elements, creating decorative styles that harmoniously blended rhythmic vitality with lyrical beauty. Though only a fragment remains, it still offers a glimpse into the exquisite craftsmanship of bronze casting and the ingenuity of decorative design during that era.
