The present lot finely worked using openwork techniques: the outer band decorated with dragons with their heads turning back. Their bodies undulate gracefully, their mouths agape and tails curled, conveying a sense of movement. The lines are fluid and highly dynamic.
Kuilong, a mythical one-legged beast from ancient Chinese lore, frequently appears as a decorative motif on pre-Qin bronze and jade artifacts, symbolizing authority, mystery, and auspiciousness. This pendant was likely worn by nobility of the period, either fastened at the waist, pinned to the chest, or attached to clothing, serving both aesthetic and ceremonial purposes. This artifact demonstrates the superb level of bronze casting and decorative artistry during the Spring and Autumn period, reflecting the aristocracy's pursuit of divine worship and aesthetic refinement.
