The present bronze lamp is an important object that combines practical functionality with historical research value. Portable lamps were ancient movable lighting devices designed to be lightweight and easy to hold or place, serving as practical tools in daily life.

Crafted from bronze, this lamp features a sturdy structure and a simple form. The body bears the inscription Nanchang, clearly indicating its connection to Nanchang County in Yuzhang Commandery during the Western Han Dynasty. This represents a rare early example where the place name Nanchang is directly inscribed on an artifact, holding immense historical, geographical, and epigraphic value. This artifact not only demonstrates the exquisite craftsmanship of Western Han bronze production but also provides invaluable physical evidence for studying Western Han local administration, the evolution of place names, and ancient lamp culture.
