Footnotes

The present group of belt hooks was meticulously decorated using the gold-and-silver inlay technique prevalent during the Warring States period. Each piece is uniquely designed in form, size, and decorative patterns, showcasing individual characteristics without any repetition. One features spiral patterns formed by gold and silver filigree, creating a powerful sense of dynamic rhythm. Another displays orderly geometric motifs, with artisans arranging gold and silver threads into symmetrical patterns. Additionally, a belt hook decorated with 'taotie' motif showcases the master craftsman's use of inlaid gold and silver techniques to skilfully depict the facial contours and intricate details of the mythical beast. The alternating gold and silver pattern preserves the solemn characteristic of the decoration on archaic bronzes while imparting a luxurious and elegant aura through the unique lustre of the metals.
