This gold double-pointed hairpin was a staple in women's hair buns from the late Qing Dynasty to the Republic period, renowned for its unique shape and intricate design. With its oval, pointed ends and a narrow waist in the middle, this ingenious structure was designed specifically to secure a bun. Its shape resembles a delicate carrying pole, with its two spindle-shaped ends creating a harmonious balance. The decorative patterns on each end could be unified or distinct.

The present lot utilizes a combination of stamping and engraving techniques: First, a regular 'shou' character motif is pressed into the base, followed by intricate engraving details. This ensures a cohesive overall design while imbuing the piece with rich, layered, and vibrant charm, fully showcasing its unique artistic charm. The pair of gold earrings with floral motifs, which seems to be simple accessories are indeed a reflection of the daily life of Qing Dynasty women, embodying a perfect fusion of traditional craftsmanship and aesthetics of that time.
