In 1992, Rolex introduced the reference 16518—a more understated version of the Cosmograph Daytona—featuring a leather strap and a deployant clasp. Five years later, the brand released the reference 16519 in white gold. This model marked the beginning of Rolex's exploration into more creative and exotic dial designs for the Daytona series powered by Zenith movements. The brand experimented with various hardstone dials, including rubellite, grossular, and turquoise.
The watch in question showcases a sodalite dial, a rich blue mineral commonly used in jewelry for its ornamental appeal. Enhancing its elegance, the dial is set with eight round brilliant-cut diamond hour markers. The reference 16519 with a sodalite dial was produced between 1997 and early 2001, and only a limited number were made during that time. Presented in excellent condition and accompanied by its original box, this timepiece is highly desirable to collectors for both its aesthetic charm and rarity.
