Footnotes

Many people might be curious about how Snoopy became associated with the Omega Speedmaster, and it all traces back to the Apollo 10 mission in 1969. During that mission, NASA used names from the Peanuts comic strip for its spacecraft: the Command Module was dubbed "Charlie Brown," while the Lunar Excursion Module was named "Snoopy" because its role was to "snoop around" for a suitable landing site for the upcoming Apollo 11 mission. In 2003, Omega honored this connection by releasing the Speedmaster Professional "Snoopy Award" edition reference 3578.51.00, limited to 5,441 pieces globally. This special edition commemorated the length of the Apollo 11 mission. Even today, NASA continues to present the Silver Snoopy Award to astronauts and employees who demonstrate exceptional dedication and professionalism. The Omega "Snoopy" is a rare and highly sought-after collector's item, offering enthusiasts a chance to own a piece of space and horological history.
