The Cartier Tank Automatique "Jumbo" is a unique and rarely seen variation of the iconic Tank design. Featuring an automatic movement housed within an 18k yellow gold case, this model diverges from the more commonly found manually wound versions with flat case backs. Offered by Cartier Paris for a brief period in the 1970s, the "Jumbo" nickname stems from its larger case size, a necessity to accommodate the self-winding movement.
To preserve the refined silhouette characteristic of the Tank, Cartier employed a bubble-back design, providing space for the rotor while maintaining the elegance of the case shape. This thoughtful design results in a slimmer profile on the wrist than one might expect from its size—remaining true to the classic Tank aesthetic.
