William Noel Pharazyn was born in Wellington 1894. He served on the Western front in World War I and was awarded the Military Cross. On 26 November 1919, he married Lydia Helen Hughes Field, the niece of Frances Hodgkins.

Part of their collection of Frances Hodgkins works appeared in E.H. McCormack's early book 'Works of Frances Hodgkins in New Zealand'. The rest of Frances Hodgkins works held by Pharazyn were not listed or illustrated for private reasons.
