Captain Anthony Hunt - Royal Navy Officer, died 1798
Years of service 1789 - 1798
Appointed post-captain in 1791, he commanded the Amphitrite. Commanding La Virginie in 1797 he was appointed to carry the Earl of Mornington and his suite to India. During his passage to India, Hunt was chased by a large French ship, La Virgine being a fast sailor, he soon lost sight of the far superior French force and landed Lord Mornington at his new role of Governor-General of Bengal. The Virginie arrived at Madras in April 1798. Almost immediately after which the young officer Hunt caught a violent fever which proved fatal. An obituary printed in the Naval Chronicle in 1799 concluded, "He has left all who knew his worth to lament his untimely fate."
Richard Colley Wellesley, 2nd Earl of Mornington, 1st Marquess Wellesley, (20 June 1760 – 26 September 1842). Fifth Governor-General of Bengal between 1798 and 1805. He later served as Foreign Secretary in the British Cabinet and as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland. Brother of Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington (1769–1852).
Surgeon Andrew Trevor was born 19 June 1773 and died on 7 July 1854. He was commissioned as a Regimental Mate in the 33rd Regiment of Foot in September 1793 and served in Flanders and India.
