An Imperial yellow-ground brocade 'dragon' roundel

Kangxi period, 17th century
for an empress or high-ranking Imperial consort of the Kangxi Emperor, 32.0cm diam.

清康熙黃緞雲錦龍紋補

Compare with a group of similar brocade dragon roundels with the same composition, see Linda Wrigglesworth, Creative Momentum: Antique Chinese, Tibetan & Korean Costumes & Textiles, 4-14 Nov 2002, London, 9/0741, 9/0746, 9/0742, 9/0747. One of the roundels, with the dragon coiling clockwise, measures 31.0cm diam. Wrigglesworth thus deduces that it would have been worn on the left shoulder. This would make the current lot, similar in size and the dragon anticlockwise, for the right shoulder.

Cash payment: we accept cash payment in Australian Dollars up to a maximum of $8,000 for lots purchased by you in this sale. Kindly note we are unable to give change so please ensure that the exact amount is provided.
To comply with legislative requirements, Bonhams will only accept payment from an account that matches the name on the invoice issued, i.e. the name on the original registration form.
