"In the old days, Saudi women, especially our grandmothers, wove the secrets of their stories with threads of wool. These stories were their own private records. When I looked for them, I found lines of wisdom and an invitation to move forward beautifully into the future."
Ola Hejazi, Lebanese-born and based in Jeddah, is a painter, printmaker, and educator. She studied Arabic Literature and holds a diploma in educational psychology. Her work integrates the Arabic alphabet, calligraphy, and printmaking, often exploring displacement and memory reconstruction. Hejazi's practice engages with cultural narratives and personal experience, frequently leaving works untitled to encourage open interpretation. Her art reflects the fluidity of identity and the impact of constant relocations, weaving memory, history, and visual language into abstract compositions that resonate with contemporary Saudi and regional art discourse.
