"What has become clear to me is the depth of Saudi visual art, especially, in that it draws inspiration from traditional mud brick houses, tented dwellings, and from these kinds of things which are close to us. And the project I am working on now is about creating a link between our heritage and our art"
Ibrahim Al Fassam was born in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, in 1955. He trained at Riyadh's Institute of Art Education for Teachers (1975) and worked in government printing houses before teaching. His paintings are inspired by folk traditions, psychological exploration, and Arabic calligraphy. Al Fassam has exhibited locally and internationally, including the Taipei Biennale (2001) and a 2009 solo exhibition featuring works inspired by Arabian antiquities. His practice bridges cultural heritage with introspective inquiry, reflecting both traditional motifs and personal exploration, positioning him as a significant figure in contemporary Saudi art.
