Bakr Sheikhoun is a pioneering Saudi artist who graduated from the Riyadh Institute of Art Education in 1969. He later pursued his studies at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome in 1980. His career quickly drew attention through a series of prestigious awards: first prize in the inaugural art competition in Ta'if (1972), first prize in a national advertising design competition organised by Abdul Latif Jameel (1973, out of more than 3,000 entries), and first prize at the Third International Exhibition of Foreign Artists in Rome (1975). In 1983, he was awarded the Golden Sail at the Kuwait Biennale. Sheikhoun's work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Ibiza Biennale (1972), the biennales of Kuwait, Cairo, and Sharjah (1983, 2000, 2004), and in the Nabatt exhibition at the Shanghai Museum. His works are held in collections in Jeddah, Riyadh, Rome, Pescara, and London, among others. He created monumental marble and bronze sculptures for institutions such as the Air Defence Base, King Abdulaziz University, and the Abdul Raouf Khalil Museum in Jeddah, as well as large murals at Riyadh and Dammam airports. Beyond his practice, Sheikhoun has played an active role in the Saudi art community as a member of the Supreme Committee of the "Mallon Saudi Arabia" competition, chair of its second jury, and organiser of its cultural evenings. He has been a guest of honour at four editions of the annual "Exhibition of Six" at Atelier Jeddah, participated widely in regional symposia and juries, and published a critical volume in 2007 with the Sharjah Department of Culture and Information
